Reclaiming Health Through Nutritional Therapy

There’s no shortage of nutrition advice. But another food rule doesn’t necessarily help you understand why you’re struggling—or what your individual body needs.

My passion for this work comes from my own health journey, including cancer, PCOS, and digestive challenges. Those experiences deepened my empathy and shaped the questions I bring to my work as a registered dietitian.

Your symptoms deserve attention, but so does the person experiencing them. Your health history, nourishment, digestion, sleep, stress, hormones, and everyday demands all provide context. My approach brings clinical knowledge and whole-person thinking together to explore what may be contributing to your concerns.

I take a non-diet approach that emphasizes nourishment over restriction and long-term health over short-term fixes. My Christian faith shapes the compassion and grace I bring to this work.

I don’t tell you what to eat—I give you the knowledge and tools to choose foods that support your individual needs and goals. Through thoughtful education, honest conversations, and collaborative care, we’ll identify your health priorities and develop practical steps at a pace that works for you. You’ll build the knowledge and confidence to make informed decisions and take an active role in your own health.

Whether you’re seeking relief from symptoms, clarity around food, or a deeper understanding of your body, you deserve nutrition care that honors both your health and your humanity.

Let’s explore what it needs and help you reclaim your health with confidence.

My Approach: The Foundations of Health

My approach focuses on the foundations of health—a nutrient-dense diet, optimal digestion, blood sugar regulation, quality sleep, and stress management. These foundations influence one another, so we look at them together, within the context of your health history and daily life.

1

Nutrient-Dense Diet

Emphasizing whole or minimally processed foods—like eggs, fish, vegetables, and fruit—that provide abundant nutrients within the food’s natural structure, known as the food matrix.

2

Optimal Digestion

Supporting digestion so your body can break down food, absorb its nutrients, and use them—because your body can only use what you absorb.

3

Blood Sugar Regulation

Energy, metabolism, hormone function, and inflammation are closely connected to blood sugar regulation, making it a key foundation of long-term health.

4

Quality Sleep

The body needs adequate, restorative rest for physical health, cognitive function, and blood sugar regulation.

5

Stress Management

We can’t always change stressful circumstances, but managing stress and our response to it helps protect mental and physical health—including digestion, blood sugar regulation, and sleep.

You can follow every food rule and exercise faithfully—and still have foundations that need attention. Fitness is not a substitute for nourishment, digestion, blood sugar regulation, sleep, or stress management. These foundations work in synergy. When one is disrupted, it can affect the others. You cannot expect the whole system to function well while ignoring what supports it.

A house with an unstable foundation doesn’t need another coat of paint. Your health deserves more than surface-level changes, too. We’ll look at what may be contributing to your concerns and build practical ways to strengthen your foundations.

This isn’t about another prescriptive diet or handing control of your health to someone else. It’s about understanding the why, questioning what actually applies to you, and learning how to nourish and support your individual body. Clinical knowledge informs your care. Your lived experience belongs in it. You’re the one who lives in your body.

My Path to Nutritional Therapy

I wanted to become a Nutritional Therapy Practitioner long before I became a dietitian. My path took a different route—but the questions that first drew me to this work never went away.

I grew up in a larger body, surrounded by messages that eating less and controlling my weight were the answers. Later, cancer, hormonal concerns, and digestive challenges pushed me to ask bigger questions. What did my body actually need? Was pursuing health the same thing as pursuing weight loss? And why did so much nutrition advice focus on restriction rather than nourishment?

Discovering traditional foods changed how I understood nutrition. I began cooking differently, questioning food rules, and paying attention to how my body responded. Over time, my relationship with food and aspects of my health changed—even without a dramatic weight-loss transformation.

I went from trying to control my body to learning how to nourish it.

That experience led to years of independent study, teaching what I was learning, and eventually becoming a registered dietitian. My formal education added clinical knowledge and challenged me to examine nutrition from multiple perspectives. It strengthened my commitment to understanding the why—not simply accepting a recommendation because it was familiar.

Now, as a student with the Nutritional Therapy Association, I’m returning to an early interest with the experience and clinical foundation I’ve gained along the way. NTP training builds on the whole-person approach I already bring to my practice.

As a registered dietitian, I bring more than knowledge to our sessions. I bring lived experience, curiosity, and a commitment to helping you participate actively in your health. My approach is:

- Faith-Rooted: I believe a loving God designed our bodies with a profound capacity for healing. That belief shapes my focus on nourishing the body, strengthening its foundations, and supporting its own restorative processes.

- Curious: Asking why, questioning assumptions, and exploring what may be contributing to your concerns.

- Whole-Person: Considering your nourishment, digestion, sleep, stress, health history, and everyday life—not reducing you to a symptom, diagnosis, or number.

- Science-Based: Grounded in nutritional science, with care shaped by your health history, lived experience, and your body’s individual responses.

- Empowering: Giving you the knowledge and tools to make informed decisions, nourish your individual body, and advocate for your health.

You don’t need my story to become your story. You deserve care that helps you understand and respond to your own.

Beyond My Practice

My interest in nutrition doesn’t stop when a session ends. Outside of sessions, I keep things simple. You’ll often find me reading about nutrition, exploring faith-based resources, or in the kitchen meal prepping or otherwise playing with my food. I enjoy a quiet moment with a book, a devotional, or a good cup of tea. Occasionally, you might catch me out on the water in a kayak or getting lost in an online shopping rabbit hole.

I used to host food swaps where people exchanged foods they’d made themselves—homemade bread for home-canned jam, for example. My underlying goal was to get people back into their kitchens: making food, sharing skills, and discovering what they could create. The exchange brought people together, but the preparation was part of the point.

These moments reflect how I view health: personal, purposeful, and about far more than what’s on your plate.
